Self Reflection
Evaluate the areas that you want to change as a parent, be honest with yourself but not harsh when deciding what you can do differently. We all can improve who are as parents but it requires having the awareness of the changes that needs to be made.
Ask yourself.
▪️Am I the parent I always wanted to be?
▪️What new routines do I want to implement with my child?
▪️What areas of our relationship can we improve in?
▪️Am I communicating effectively to my child?
▪️Does my child respect me?
▪️Am I to easy/hard on my child?
▪️Do I provide a safe talking space for my child?
▪️Are their others who knows more about my child than I do?
Review!
Review. Reflect. Understand.
Review and reflect on recent challenges that you’ve encountered with your child. It will not only provide you with insight into the areas of your relationship that needs to be improved but will help you understand your differences.
Challenges can include:
Disagreements
Reactions to your directive
Misunderstanding
Lack of Respect
Listening
Family Feedback
Have and allow an open, safe, and non-confrontational feedback discussion with your child. Allow them to respectfully state their concerns, issues and views about you as a parent and the relationship they would like to have with you. Have this discussion when everyone is in a clear mindset and a positive space of growth and understanding. Feedback should only be used to understand how your child views you and their relationship with you. It should not be used for later argument tactics and ways to belittle yourself in the future.
Parenting is not easy!!
So be patient with yourself and your child.
